RoBee is an Italian industrial humanoid from Oversonic Robotics in Lombardy: a dual-arm torso with adjustable height on a wheeled mobile base, driven by a cognitive AI layer for conversation and task planning. It carries CE marking under the EU Machinery Directive and is used in factories, intralogistics and, in a separate version, healthcare.
History
Astrophysicist Fabio Puglia and economic statistician Paolo Denti founded Oversonic Robotics in Besana Brianza in 2020. The company describes itself as a cognitive computing software firm, and RoBee is its core product.
In December 2023 Italian automation group Datalogic took a minority stake and agreed to cooperate on sales, R&D and marketing; RoBee uses Datalogic safety laser scanners among other components.
RoBee now comes in three series: R for industry, M for healthcare and F for intralogistics.
Hardware
RoBee R weighs up to 293 kg, adjusts in height from 165 to 199 cm and has a 65 x 71 cm footprint. Instead of legs it uses a mobile base with differential or omnidirectional drive, reaching 1.2 m/s and handling 8% slopes, with SIL 3 rated obstacle detection. Italian daily Avvenire reported 36 movable joints.
Arm reach is 95 cm, payload 7.5 kg per arm or up to 15 kg bimanually, with repeatability of ±0.8 mm. Sensing includes force feedback in the drives, lidars, vision and depth cameras, an optional thermal camera, 60 W speakers and a cardioid microphone.
Two lithium-ion batteries give up to 8 hours; charging is automatic and inductive, and batteries can be swapped quickly. The CEO has said a 90-minute charge covers another 8 hours, enough for three shifts. It is rated for indoor use at 5-50 °C.
Software and AI
Oversonic's cognitive platform covers multilingual voice conversation, a mission graph for building and running tasks, ML Studio for training vision models, a multimodal reasoning engine and predictive maintenance. The robot recognises individuals and adapts its behaviour, connects to ERP and MES systems, and is managed through a cloud fleet console, with Oculus-based teleoperation for remote guidance.
Under the EU-funded HIVE project (EIC programme), Oversonic is developing a version that runs perception and reasoning, including vision-language (VLM) and vision-language-action (VLA) models, fully on board. The pilot task is autonomous burn-in board cleaning at STMicroelectronics' facility in Malta.
Safety and certification
RoBee has CE marking for industrial and Class I medical use, meets Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and EMC requirements, is rated IPX4 and holds ISO Class 6 cleanroom certification. The EU's CORDIS database describes it as the first CE-certified humanoid industrial robot. Oversonic's claim that it is the only humanoid certified for both industry and healthcare is a company statement.
CEO Paolo Denti has noted that industrial machinery rules cap the robot's speed at roughly a third of human walking pace.
Deployments
In September 2024 Oversonic said nine robots were working at customers including Cosma in Friuli, Exor International in Verona and SEW-Eurodrive in Solaro, with 20 more sold and 30 orders on a waiting list. It cited about 140 developed applications such as boxing, moving large items and inspection.
On December 22, 2025 STMicroelectronics announced an agreement to deploy RoBee in logistics and production at several of its semiconductor plants worldwide, which both companies described as a first for the chip industry.
Manufacturer
Oversonic Robotics Srl Società Benefit is headquartered in Carate Brianza, with an office in Milan, a site in Rovereto (Trentino) and a US arm, Oversonic Inc., in Hamilton, Ohio. It had about 70 staff in September 2024. Fabio Puglia is chairman and Paolo Denti is CEO.
Price and availability
Oversonic does not publish prices. RoBee is sold directly to businesses, and the company offers an online assessment to check whether it fits a given site.
