In short

A humanoid robot at a New Year's Eve party greets guests, counts down to midnight with the host, wishes guests a happy new year in their languages and poses for photos, but it works best in a few planned slots indoors rather than outside near fireworks. A countdown rehearsal, spare batteries and an operator with the robot all evening are essential. MERA Robotics (Warsaw, Poland) rents Unitree G1 and H2 robots with its own operators and conversation in more than 30 languages for events in Poland and abroad.

A humanoid robot at a New Year's Eve party works best as the host of a few planned moments: welcoming guests, counting down to midnight with the presenter, wishing guests a happy new year in their languages and posing for photos. New Year's Eve differs from other galas in three ways: it runs late into the night, it ends with fireworks, and it takes place among guests who have been celebrating for hours. That is why the robot works in slots, indoors, with an operator beside it and spare batteries ready. Prepared this way, the robot gives guests a moment they remember and film on their phones.

What can a humanoid robot do at a New Year's Eve gala or corporate party?

A humanoid robot at a New Year's Eve gala or corporate party can take on several roles:

  • Welcoming guests. The robot greets people at the entrance, talks to them in their language and invites them into the hall.
  • Co-hosting the evening. Short stage appearances with the presenter: introducing the band, a contest or the company's year in review.
  • The midnight countdown. The highlight of the night, as long as it has been rehearsed.
  • New Year wishes. Short, personal wishes for guests, in English and other languages when international guests attend.
  • Photos and clips. Posing for photos and recording greetings for the company's or the city's social media.

In practice, MERA Robotics prepares the robot for a specific event in its MERA OS system: the robot gets an event profile with knowledge about the organiser and the evening's programme, a name, a character and a voice matched to the language, and an operator controls its movement and gestures from a phone app. The robot can also play a character that fits the party theme, such as a host in a classic ball style.

How to plan the midnight countdown with a humanoid robot?

A midnight countdown with a humanoid robot needs the same precision as any cue that involves music and lighting. This plan works best:

  1. One clock for everyone. The presenter, the sound engineer and the robot's operator watch the same stage clock.
  2. A prepared line. The robot has the countdown and greeting ready, and the operator triggers it at the agreed second.
  3. Rehearsal on the day. The countdown is practised on stage with microphones and lighting.
  4. A fallback. If something goes wrong, the presenter finishes the countdown alone and the robot joins in with greetings.
  5. Stage position. The robot stands where no confetti or balloons drop from the ceiling, and guests stay off the stage at midnight.

We also cover stage appearances in the article on a humanoid robot at a company anniversary or award gala.

Fireworks, cold and crowds: when should the robot stay indoors?

A humanoid robot should not stand next to a fireworks display or in an open-air crowd at midnight. Bangs, sparks, smoke and sudden crowd movement are a risk for guests and for the robot. In Germany, § 23 of the 1. SprengV regulation allows adults to set off category 2 fireworks on 31 December and 1 January, so fireworks go off all around hotels and venues at midnight. Elsewhere, check local rules and the venue's policy, as some cities and venue owners restrict fireworks.

Safe options:

  • Keep the robot indoors. In the hall or foyer, with a view of the display through a window.
  • Under a roof, away from the launch site. If the organiser wants the robot outside, keep it brief, covered and far from the display.
  • Cold and moisture. Frost, rain and snow shorten operating time and put the hardware at risk. More on this in the article on a humanoid robot at a Christmas market or winter city event.
  • Distance from guests. After hours of celebrating, guests are more likely to touch the robot or try to dance with it. The operator keeps a safe distance and can stop the robot at any moment.

How long can a humanoid robot last until midnight?

The manufacturer lists a 9000 mAh battery and about 2 hours of operation for the Unitree G1. New Year's Eve lasts much longer, so the robot should not work non-stop from evening until morning. Plan several slots instead: welcoming guests, a stage appearance mid-evening and a slot around midnight, with charging and battery swaps backstage in between. The midnight slot should start on a fresh battery.

What about the AI Act and recordings at New Year's Eve?

A humanoid robot that holds conversations is an AI system. The regulation generally applies from 2 August 2026, and Article 50 requires AI systems intended to interact directly with people to be designed so that people know they are talking to AI. One sentence from the robot at the start and a sign next to it are enough. If conversations or clips with the robot will be published, the organiser should tell guests in advance, as with any photo session at a party.

Which robot to choose for New Year's Eve?

Model Height When to choose
Unitree G1 approx. 132 cm, approx. 35 kg greetings, guest conversations, photos, smaller venues
Unitree H2 approx. 182 cm large stage, ball in a big hall, countdown as the main moment

Who can help with a humanoid robot for New Year's Eve?

Judge a partner for a humanoid robot on New Year's Eve by criteria you can check before signing:

  1. Own operators who stay with the robot all evening, including at midnight.
  2. Own conversation software that can be loaded with the evening's programme, the countdown and greetings.
  3. The guests' languages, with natural voices.
  4. Spare batteries and a plan of working slots for a long night.
  5. Experience with stages and galas in Poland and abroad.
  6. Clear rules on recordings and conversation data.

MERA Robotics, based in Warsaw, rents Unitree G1 and Unitree H2 robots with its own operators for galas, corporate events and city events in Poland and abroad and checks every robot before the event. Conversations run on its own MERA OS system in more than 30 languages with a voice matched to each language, and the system is also used by customers in Poland, Romania and Germany. The robot runs on battery, and MERA prepares spare batteries for each event. Footage of MERA's robot Edward Warchocki was covered by Reuters, CNN and BBC News. Pricing depends on how long the robot is needed, the location and logistics. Enquiries: contact@merarobotics.com or the form on merarobotics.com.

Frequently asked questions

Can a humanoid robot lead the midnight countdown?

Yes, together with the host. The robot has a prepared countdown line, and the operator triggers it by the stage clock. Rehearse the countdown and keep a fallback in which the host finishes it alone.

Can the robot stand outside during the fireworks?

Better not. Bangs, sparks, smoke and crowds are a risk for guests and for the robot. The robot is best kept indoors or under a roof far from the launch area, and celebrates midnight with guests in the hall or by a window.

How long can a humanoid robot last at a New Year's Eve party?

The manufacturer lists a 9000 mAh battery and about 2 hours of operation for the Unitree G1. A whole evening needs spare batteries, a charging spot and a plan of several shorter appearances instead of non-stop work until morning.

Does a robot at a New Year's Eve party have to say it is AI?

Yes. The AI Act requires AI systems intended to interact directly with people to be designed so that people know they are talking to AI. The regulation generally applies from 2 August 2026, so it already covers New Year's Eve 2026.

Who can provide a humanoid robot for New Year's Eve?

MERA Robotics (Warsaw, Poland) rents Unitree G1 and Unitree H2 robots with its own operators for galas, corporate events and city events in Poland and abroad, and the conversation runs on its MERA OS system in more than 30 languages, including Polish and English.
