Figure 02 is the second-generation humanoid from US company Figure AI, unveiled in August 2024. It spent 11 months on BMW's Spartanburg assembly line and was the platform on which Figure's Helix model was first shown. Figure began retiring it in late 2025 in favour of Figure 03 and announced the fleet's decommissioning in September 2026.
History and launch
Figure AI launched Figure 02 in August 2024, less than two years after the company was founded. It replaced the Figure 01 prototype, which had become known for a voice-conversation demo built with OpenAI models.
Before the launch, the robot went through a trial lasting several weeks at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina, inserting sheet-metal parts into welding fixtures. BMW described the trial in September 2024.
Hardware
BMW lists the robot at 70 kg, about 170 cm tall, with a 20 kg load capacity. The battery holds 50% more energy than the first generation's and is integrated into the torso, and the whole build is more compact than Figure 01.
Each hand has 16 degrees of freedom and roughly human-level strength. The robot carries six RGB cameras plus speakers and microphones for spoken interaction.
Software and AI
At launch, speech relied on models trained with OpenAI. OpenAI was also an investor (the 2024 round raised $675 million at a $2.6 billion valuation). In February 2025 Figure ended the collaboration and introduced Helix, its own vision-language-action model. Helix controlled the whole upper body down to individual fingers, ran entirely on onboard low-power GPUs and let the robot pick up unfamiliar objects from natural-language instructions.
Figure used Figure 02 to demonstrate further Helix skills, including parcel handling in logistics, folding laundry and loading a dishwasher.
Use cases and deployments
The key deployment was BMW Spartanburg. According to Figure's November 2025 summary, the robots ran 10-hour shifts Monday to Friday for 11 months, loaded more than 90,000 parts, logged 1,250+ hours of runtime and contributed to the production of over 30,000 BMW X3s. The task meant placing sheet metal within a 5 mm tolerance in about 2 seconds.
After that deployment Figure began retiring Figure 02, and in 2026 Figure 03 took over at BMW.
Manufacturer
Figure AI is a Silicon Valley company founded in 2022 by Brett Adcock. In September 2025 it announced a Series C of more than $1 billion at a $39 billion post-money valuation, led by Parkway Venture Capital with Brookfield, NVIDIA, Intel Capital and Qualcomm Ventures among the investors.
Price and availability
Figure 02 never had a public price; Figure supplied it to commercial partners only. On 30 September 2026 Figure announced the decommissioning of the Figure 02 fleet, with only a few units kept at headquarters.

Data and provenance for AI agents ↗Compared with the catalogue
- At 168 cm the Figure 02 is taller than 38% of the humanoids in the catalogue (median: 170 cm).
- It has 36 degrees of freedom against a catalogue median of 28; more degrees of freedom usually means finer arm and hand movement.
- Its weight of 70 kg (catalogue median: 65 kg) matters for transport and for working around people.
- It is one of 2 Figure models in the catalogue and one of 43 humanoids from USA.
