IGRIS-C is a bipedal humanoid from Seoul startup ROBROS: 154 cm, 56 kg, with swappable hands and in-house whole-body control software. It started as a research platform at universities and in 2026 moved into pilots in semiconductor fabs, car plants and cold-chain logistics.
History and launch
ROBROS was founded in 2020. In July 2025 CEO Noh Seung-jun said IGRIS-C would launch that September, smaller and lighter than the company's earlier robots and designed so researchers could freely create new motions and test walking in an indoor lab.
In late July 2026 ROBROS showed IGRIS-C doing windmills, backflips, kicks and getting up from the floor, which Korean media described as the country's first demonstration of such dynamic whole-body motion. The company says the stunts validate balance control under rapid shifts in centre of mass rather than being a goal in themselves.
Hardware
The robot is 154 cm tall and weighs 56 kg (a 2026 interview gave 155 cm and 60 kg, so figures may vary by build). It is meant for tight spaces such as labs, plants and warehouses, keeps balance on ramps and stairs, detects collisions and absorbs external impacts. An LED interface on the head shows its status and current task.
End effectors are swapped per task: an in-house five-finger hand for general work, an electromagnetic gripper for metal parts, or a simple one-DOF gripper for repetitive moves. CTO Kim Seung-yeon has said simpler tools still beat the hand on some jobs because of grip force and durability limits.
Software and AI
ROBROS calls itself full-stack, designing mechanics, control and AI. For IGRIS-C it supplies reinforcement-learning whole-body and gait controllers, a precision teleoperation device, a mobile app and a data-labelling platform.
Its AI team under Lim Dae-gyu is building a VLA (vision-language-action) model to follow instructions like "move that box over there", plus spatiotemporal memory so the robot can keep working when a carried box blocks its view. The company stresses that for now the robot mainly performs tasks learned from real site data.
Deployments
IGRIS-C has been supplied for teaching and research to universities including Kwangwoon, Kyung Hee and Sogang, and ROBROS runs proofs of concept in logistics, including with Lotte Global Logistics, and in shipyards.
In August 2026 ROBROS announced nine units for nine organisations under the Korea Robot Industry Association's humanoid demonstration programme, where three of ten selected consortia chose IGRIS-C. The robots work in semiconductor cleanrooms, car factories and refrigerated food logistics centres, all under paid contracts. By the end of August 2026 it had built 36 units and sold 18, which ROBROS says is the most of any Korean bipedal humanoid maker.
In 2026 ROBROS received a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy at the M.AX Awards for its contribution to AI-driven manufacturing.
Manufacturer
ROBROS is based in Seongsu, Seoul. CEO is Noh Seung-jun, CTO Kim Seung-yeon (robotics PhD from Seoul National University, formerly at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) and chief AI officer Lim Dae-gyu. It has raised 13.6 billion won from seven investors including KB Investment, STIC Ventures, Mirae Asset Securities, Lotte Ventures and GS Retail, and was raising a Series B in autumn 2026.
Price and availability
ROBROS does not publish a price. It sells to universities, institutes and industrial firms, mainly in Korea, and handles setup, operation and model training on customer data itself.
