ALLEX is a general-purpose humanoid from South Korea's WIRobotics, a company previously known for its WIM wearable walking-assist robot. The design focuses on whole-body compliance, very light arms and dexterous hands so the robot can work safely around people.
Hardware
ALLEX has compliant arms, hands, neck and waist. WIRobotics built custom actuators with roughly one-tenth the friction and one twenty-fourth the inertia of typical commercial actuators, giving very high backdrivability and, the company says, a smaller sim-to-real gap.
Each arm weighs about 9 kg including the hand. The human-sized hand (the website lists 15 DoF) achieves fingertip repeatability of 0.5 mm or better, fingertip force of at least 40 N and, according to the maker, can lift more than 30 kg. It detects forces of about 100 gf without dedicated sensors. A gravity-compensation mechanism spans the whole body, and a 20 kHz torque control loop runs over high-speed EtherCAT.
Use cases
WIRobotics presents ALLEX as a general-purpose robot able to handle both delicate manipulation and heavy or high-impact tasks alongside people. Its website does not list specific commercial deployments.
Manufacturer
WIRobotics is a South Korean company. Besides the humanoid it makes WIM wearable walking-assist robots and runs gait-training centers. Its stated vision is safe, interactive humanoids that coexist with people in everyday life.
