NEO Beta was the first bipedal home humanoid prototype that 1X Technologies showed publicly, unveiled at the end of August 2024. It was used for research and limited trials in selected homes and was never sold; it was followed by NEO Gamma (2025) and the consumer NEO Home Robot.
History and launch
1X unveiled NEO Beta on 30 August 2024. Until then the company was known for EVE, a wheeled robot for commercial sites. CEO Bernt Børnich said a limited number of units would go into selected homes in 2024 for R&D and called safety the precondition for bringing robots home.
NEO Gamma replaced Beta in February 2025, and preorders for a consumer version opened in October 2025.
Hardware
Launch specs listed 1.65 m and 30 kg, with a 20 kg carrying capacity. It could run at up to 12 km/h but typically walked at up to 4 km/h (about 1.1 m/s), with 2 to 4 hours per charge.
1X described the body as built with muscle-like actuation rather than rigid hydraulics: motors drive tendons, which the company says makes motion soft and quiet and reduces risk to people.
Software and AI
NEO Beta was meant to learn household tasks through embodied learning, from data gathered by the robot itself, and to take natural-language instructions. 1X said from the start that a remote operator could take over the robot's vision and movement when needed.
Demos often relied on teleoperation. In a November 2024 video with chef Nick DiGiovanni, NEO Beta cooked a steak, and 1X stated that the whole sequence was teleoperated to make sure it succeeded.
Price and availability
NEO Beta was a research prototype with no retail price. The $20,000 figure applies to the later consumer NEO, on preorder since October 2025.
