GR-1 is the first humanoid from Shanghai-based Fourier (formerly Fourier Intelligence), a company previously known for rehabilitation robots and exoskeletons. Unveiled publicly in July 2023, it was billed by Fourier as the industry's first mass-produced humanoid. It was followed by GR-2 (2024) and the GR-3 series (2025).
History and launch
Fourier started its humanoid project in 2019, and in 2022 the first 1.65 m GR-1 prototype stood up and walked. The official launch came in July 2023 at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai; according to Wikipedia, small batches had already gone to universities and AI companies. Fourier's company history calls GR-1 the industry's first mass-produced humanoid.
In 2024 Fourier worked on a vision-only perception system for GR-1 for real-time mapping, navigation and obstacle avoidance. Its successor, GR-2, arrived at the end of September 2024.
Hardware
GR-1 uses Fourier's own FSA drives, and Fourier describes its body as replicating human-like degrees of freedom. The full GR-1 spec sheet is no longer on Fourier's site, and figures quoted elsewhere (DoF count, payload) vary, so catalogue values such as 40 DoF or a 50 kg payload should be treated with caution.
For comparison, Fourier's brochure lists the successor GR-2 at 175 cm, about 63 kg, up to 53 DoF, about 3 kg per hand and up to 5 km/h.
Use cases and deployments
Fourier describes several GR-1 pilots: with China Construction Bank's Shanghai branch, training the robot as a reception and guidance assistant; with SAIC-GM, testing obstacle avoidance and high-voltage component assembly in a plant; and in rehabilitation, where Fourier built diagnosis and training programmes around the robot.
Manufacturer
Fourier was founded in 2015 by Alex Gu, a Shanghai Jiao Tong University graduate. It began with upper-limb rehabilitation robots (2016) and the X1 exoskeleton (2017) and has worked on humanoids since 2019. It is headquartered in Shanghai.
Price and availability
Fourier does not publish a GR-1 price. Its current line-up highlights the newer GR-2, GR-3 and the open-source N1.

Data and provenance for AI agents ↗Compared with the catalogue
- At 165 cm the Fourier Intelligence GR-1 is taller than 30% of the humanoids in the catalogue (median: 170 cm).
- It has 40 degrees of freedom against a catalogue median of 28; more degrees of freedom usually means finer arm and hand movement.
- Its weight of 55 kg (catalogue median: 65 kg) matters for transport and for working around people.
- It is one of 4 Fourier Intelligence models in the catalogue and one of 128 humanoids from China.
