NEO is a bipedal home humanoid from 1X Technologies, offered for preorder since October 2025 at $20,000 or a $499 monthly subscription. It is meant to handle simple household chores, and tasks it has not yet learned can be guided remotely by a 1X operator.

History and launch

1X developed the NEO Beta and NEO Gamma prototypes before the consumer version. The commercial NEO was unveiled on October 28, 2025, with preorders opening the same week.

The company says its first-year production allocation of more than 10,000 units sold out within five days. On April 30, 2026, 1X announced full-scale production at its factory in Hayward, California. Early units go to the company's R&D lab and internal home testing, with customer shipments planned for 2026. As of this update we found no confirmed delivery to a customer.

Hardware

NEO stands 5'6" (168 cm) and weighs 66 lb (about 30 kg). 1X lists a lift capacity of 154 lb, a carry capacity of 55 lb and 18 lb per arm. The body is soft, built from 3D-printed polymer lattice structures and fabric to reduce risk when it touches people.

Joints are driven by 1X's patented Tendon Drive. The spec sheet lists 22 degrees of freedom per hand, 7 per arm, 6 per leg, 3 in the neck and 2 in the spine, roughly 75 in total.

The 842 Wh battery gives about four hours of runtime; the robot docks itself, and 1X quotes a quick charge of six minutes per hour of use. Claimed operating noise is 22 dB. The hands are rated IP68 and the body IP44. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 5G, and the sensor kit includes four beamforming microphones and dual stereo fisheye cameras.

Software and AI

On-board compute, branded NEO Cortex, is built around NVIDIA Jetson Thor. 1X trains in NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab and uses its own Redwood AI, which it describes as a vision-language model for learning and performing household chores.

NEO talks, responds only when addressed and remembers context between conversations. Owners schedule chores in an app. For unfamiliar tasks a 1X expert can supervise the robot remotely during hours the owner approves. Owners can define no-go zones and blur the faces of people on camera.

The reliance on teleoperation drew criticism after a Wall Street Journal test in which the robot completed no task autonomously. CEO Bernt Børnich said teleoperation is temporary and feeds data back into the models.

Use cases and deployments

The primary market is the home, starting with opening doors, fetching items, switching off lights and light tidying. In December 2025, 1X and EQT announced a shared intent to roll out up to 10,000 NEO units across EQT portfolio companies from 2026 to 2030, including manufacturing and logistics. It is not a binding order; each portfolio company decides for itself.

Manufacturer

1X Technologies was founded by Bernt Børnich. It has Norwegian roots and now describes itself as a US-based AI and robotics company. The 58,000 sq ft Hayward plant employs more than 200 people and is rated for 10,000 robots a year, with a stated goal of over 100,000 a year by the end of 2027. Motors, batteries, transmissions, structures and sensors are made in-house. EQT Ventures is among its investors.

Price and availability

Early Access costs $20,000 with priority 2026 delivery, or $499 per month on subscription, with a refundable $200 deposit. Deliveries start in the US, with other markets planned from 2027. Colors: tan, gray and dark brown.
