Feather is a wheeled two-armed robot with a humanoid upper body, sold by US company Feather Robotics as an open hardware platform for teams with their own physical AI models. It has a torso lift with 600 mm of travel, 1 m arms, swappable batteries for 10 hours and an open Python and ROS 2 SDK. It lists at 32,990 dollars, 29,990 dollars on promotion.
Design and technology
The spec sheet lists 105 kg fully configured and 23 DoF: 7 per arm, 2 in the neck, 1 in the torso and 6 in the base. The 500 × 510 mm holonomic base moves in any direction without turning at up to 1.3 m/s and fits through standard doors. The torso travels 600 mm vertically at up to 150 mm/s, reaching from the floor to high shelves.
Each 1 m arm holds 6.8 kg peak and 1.8 kg sustained when fully extended. Standard end effectors are 6-DoF hands or parallel-jaw grippers, swappable in the field. Two hot-swappable 48 V, 50 Ah packs give about 10 hours at a 240 W load.
The head takes a ZED stereo camera (2i, X or X Mini), with optional wrist cameras. Compute is customer-swappable: Jetson Nano, Jetson AGX Orin or Jetson Thor. There is a 10-inch touchscreen, a four-mic array with speaker and a rear emergency stop.
Software
Feather ships with an open Python SDK (Apache 2.0) and ROS 2 support, built-in teleoperation, inverse kinematics with collision detection and simulation support. The company deliberately does not supply its own robot brain: the robot is a base for customers' models. The design minimizes part count to reduce failure points.
Applications
Feather targets physical AI companies, manufacturers, integrators and researchers. The company says its robots have worked in the field for a year, including in manufacturing and food service; customers are not named.
Company
Feather Robotics Inc. is a US company. CEO and co-founder Hoa Mai, formerly at Google and Apple, has built humanoids since 2018 and co-founded Kind Humanoid, later acquired by 1X. Co-founder and CPO Parsa Bakhtiari worked at Tesla during the 2018 Model 3 production crunch and on robotics projects.
Price and availability
List price is 32,990 dollars, with a promotional 29,990 dollars while supplies last. Feather is fulfilling orders and offers financing, fleet pricing and a one-year warranty, with extended SLAs for fleets of five or more.
