THEMIS is a full-size, general-purpose bipedal humanoid from Westwood Robotics of Los Angeles, driven by the company's own force-controlled BEAR actuators. The second generation (TH02), in its current Gen 2.5 form, stands 1.6 m tall, weighs 36.5 kg and has 42 degrees of freedom. The detailed datasheet covers Gen 2.5; Westwood does not publish separate figures for the earlier V2 variant.
History and launch
Westwood Robotics has operated since 2018, starting with BEAR proprioceptive (back-drivable electromechanical) actuators and the kid-size BRUCE humanoid, developed jointly with the RoMeLa lab. THEMIS is its full-size humanoid; company videos show it doing housework, handling hazardous waste and manipulating objects on the move. The current brochure, from May 2026, describes THEMIS TH02 Gen 2.5.
Design and hardware
The Gen 2.5 brochure lists 1.6 m and 36.5 kg, light for a full-size humanoid, with 42 DoF: 6 per leg, 7 per arm, 7 in each three-finger force-controlled hand and 2 in the head. Payload is 15 kg and top walking speed 5 km/h. Hip and knee BEAR actuators can be ordered with liquid cooling for sustained high loads.
Power comes from two hot-swappable 259.2 Wh packs for up to 120 minutes of operation (up to 180 minutes with a 302 Wh extended battery). The main computer is an AMD Ryzen 7840HS with 32 GB RAM running control at 1 kHz. A ZED 2i stereo camera with a Jetson Orin NX 16 GB sits in the head, with an optional ZED X Mini and second Jetson in the body, for up to 314 TOPS combined. A tactical-grade IMU, speaker, microphone and wireless e-stop are standard.
Software and AI
Westwood says the THEMIS operating system lets users control the robot and deploy tasks through large language models, pseudo-code and AI-assisted teleoperation. The vision compute handles perception, manipulation planning, ground depth mapping and foot placement.
Manufacturer
Westwood Robotics is based in Los Angeles, with a service location in China. Besides THEMIS it sells BEAR actuators and the open-source BRUCE research humanoid.
Price and availability
THEMIS can be ordered through Westwood's contact form, with 6 months of technical support included and an optional THEMIS Adventure service plan. No price is published.

Data and provenance for AI agents ↗Compared with the catalogue
- At 160 cm the Westwood Robotics THEMIS V2 is taller than 19% of the humanoids in the catalogue (median: 170 cm).
- It has 42 degrees of freedom against a catalogue median of 28; more degrees of freedom usually means finer arm and hand movement.
- Its weight of 37 kg (catalogue median: 65 kg) matters for transport and for working around people.
- It is the only Westwood Robotics model in the catalogue and one of 43 humanoids from USA.
