Digit 5 is the fifth-generation bipedal humanoid from Agility Robotics of Salem, Oregon, built for warehouse and factory work. It is the company's first robot designed to work safely near people without fencing. It was unveiled on 15 September 2026, with general availability planned by the end of 2027.
History and launch
Agility has developed Digit for years; the previous generation, Digit 4, has worked commercially for nearly three years at North American customers including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. The fleet has logged more than 65,000 hours, and at GXO's Flowery Branch site near Atlanta Digit 4 moved a cumulative 100,000 totes at about 98% accuracy.
Digit 5 was unveiled on 15 September 2026. Agility says it was built to requirements customers gave after three years with Digit 4. Early access is expected in the first half of 2027 and general availability for manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operators by the end of 2027.
Design and technology
Digit 5 stands 1.81 m (5 ft 11 in), weighs 129 kg (284 lb) and reaches 2.2 m (7.2 ft), up from Digit 4's 5.5 ft. New legs with Agility's cycloidal actuators let it repeatedly lift loads up to 22.7 kg (50 lb), 40% more than before and enough for single-person lift tasks under OSHA rules. A 90-minute battery charges in 9 minutes, giving a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio (Digit 4 was 2:1) and more than 20 working hours a day. Grippers are swappable via ISO-standard flanges.
The biggest change is safety. Proprietary AI and multiple sensor types detect people, and the robot then avoids them, stops or sits down. Light and sound cues signal its intent, and an independent safety controller triggers responses when someone comes too close. Agility is the first launch partner for NVIDIA's Halos for Robotics platform on IGX Thor. Earlier, Digit became the first humanoid to pass an independent field evaluation for OSHA-administered safety standards on a customer production line.
Software and AI
Digit 4 mostly handled totes. With physical AI-based skill training, Digit 5 is meant to cover a facility's whole workflow: depalletizing, machine tending, kitting and sequencing, quality inspection and palletizing. Fleets run on the Agility Arc cloud platform, which ties into WMS, WES and MES systems, AMRs and conveyors. Sensor data is processed on the robot; only encrypted health and diagnostic data goes to the cloud.
Applications and orders
Agility says that as of May 2026 it held more than 300 million dollars in multi-year Digit 5 orders, subject to contractual milestones. Target sectors are manufacturing, warehousing and logistics. For the first time Digit is to be offered outside North America, starting with the EU and UK, carrying a CE mark.
Manufacturer
Agility Robotics is headquartered in Salem, Oregon, with an engineering office in Pittsburgh and a hardware and physical AI hub in Fremont, California, opened in July 2026. Digit is assembled at RoboFab in Salem, a 70,000 sq ft plant designed to build up to 10,000 robots a year. CEO Peggy Johnson previously ran Magic Leap. The company has announced a business combination with SPAC Churchill Capital Corp XI and is preparing to go public.
