Apollo 2 is the current version of the humanoid from Austin, Texas-based Apptronik, available in bipedal or wheeled-base configurations. It mainly collects real-world work data at Robot Park facilities and customer sites, feeding Gemini Robotics models developed with Google DeepMind. Lessons from Apollo 2 are meant to shape its commercial successor, Apollo 3.

History and launch

Apptronik grew out of the Human Centered Robotics Lab at the University of Texas at Austin and has built 15 earlier robots, including work on NASA's Valkyrie. Apollo 2 was officially unveiled on 30 June 2026 together with the expanded Robot Park in Austin, though the company says it had already been working there for more than a year.

The Austin Robot Park covers nearly 90,000 sq ft and anchors a network of similar sites at partners and customers, with more cities planned.

Design and technology

Apollo 2 is modular: the bipedal version moves through spaces built for people, while the wheeled base offers stability and efficiency in high-throughput settings. The wheeled version is designed to conform to existing safety standards for industrial mobile robots, easing deployment in customer facilities.

It runs on Apptronik's patented actuators, designed for 90%+ energy efficiency, easy maintenance, mass manufacturing and supply-chain resilience. Swappable batteries enable 7x22 operation, with opportunity charging and tethering as options. Apollo 2 has an expressive LED mouth, coordinated lighting, speech and listening, and a chest display showing status, battery level and task progress. An impact zone halts motion when something comes too close, and a configurable perimeter zone adjusts behavior as people and equipment approach.

Software and AI

Apptronik Artemis handles perception, planning, control, safety, task execution and human-robot interaction, and Fleet Connect manages fleets. Data comes from teleoperation and autonomous execution, supplemented by physics simulation, and feeds Gemini Robotics models under Apptronik's research partnership with Google DeepMind.

The Google DeepMind partnership was announced in March 2025 alongside the Gemini Robotics models: DeepMind said it was working with Apptronik to build the next generation of humanoids with Gemini 2.0 and that Gemini Robotics could be specialized for more complex embodiments such as the Apollo humanoid.

Applications and deployments

At Robot Park, Apollo 2 practices customer-driven tasks in logistics, manufacturing and retail. Similar data collection setups run at Google DeepMind and at customers Mercedes-Benz and GXO. Apptronik's product page lists goods-to-person and person-to-goods workflows, packout, kitting, inspection and sorting, and machine tending.

Manufacturer

Apptronik is based in Austin and has more than 350 employees. Jeff Cardenas is CEO and co-founder, and Barry Phillips is Chief Commercial Officer. The company says its next commercial product, Apollo 3, will debut with models trained on Apollo 2 data.

Price and availability

Apptronik does not publish an Apollo 2 price. The robot works in the company's own fleets and at selected partners; Apollo 3 is the planned commercial product.
