Astribot S1 is a two-armed humanoid robot on a mobile base, built by Shenzhen-based Astribot (星尘智能). Its hallmark is very fast, precise arms: the end effector reaches at least 10 m/s with ±0.1 mm repeatability. The current version is aimed mainly at research and AI data collection.

What it is

Astribot was founded in Shenzhen in December 2022. It calls its approach "Design for AI" (DFAI): hardware and software designed together so the robot is well suited to data collection and model training. S1 is its first product.

Unlike bipedal humanoids, S1 has a human-like torso, head and two arms but moves on a mobile base. Astribot itself describes it, in the Lumo-1 write-up, as "a bimanual mobile manipulator with human-like dexterity and agility".

Hardware

Astribot's spec table lists S1 at 170 cm and 80 kg with a 194 cm arm span. Each arm has 7 DoF and lifts 5 kg at horizontal reach. The end effector reaches at least 10 m/s and about 100 m/s² acceleration, with ±0.1 mm positioning repeatability. Astribot compares this with an adult man (5-10 m/s in an arm swing, ±1-5 mm accuracy).

The robot runs 4-6 hours on battery and can also work plugged in. Astribot notes that the figures are for the research version and some can be unlocked for higher performance. The 10 m/s figure is arm-tip speed, not driving speed.

Software and AI

S1 ships with APIs, developer guides, a visual development interface, support for major simulators and a full pipeline from data collection to model deployment. Data can be recorded through VR teleoperation.

Astribot develops its own models. Lumo-1 combines vision-language reasoning with physical action, trained in three stages (continued VLM pre-training, co-training on cross-embodiment robot data, and action training on trajectories collected on S1), followed by reinforcement learning. The company also publishes Lumo-2, Philia and SmoothRL.

Use cases and price

Astribot targets universities and research institutes, companies building robot AI models and data-collection centres, with industry and home use as longer-term goals. It does not publish a price or sales numbers.

Compared with the catalogue

  • At 170 cm the Astribot S1 is taller than 43% of the humanoids in the catalogue (median: 170 cm).
  • It has 28 degrees of freedom against a catalogue median of 28; more degrees of freedom usually means finer arm and hand movement.
  • Its weight of 80 kg (catalogue median: 65 kg) matters for transport and for working around people.
  • It is the only Astribot model in the catalogue and one of 128 humanoids from China.
