ATOM Max is the research and industrial version of the full-size ATOM humanoid from DOBOT, a Shenzhen maker best known for collaborative robot arms. It has 41 degrees of freedom including the hands, depth cameras and a 1500 TOPS compute module. The base ATOM entered series production in June 2025.
History and launch
DOBOT unveiled the ATOM humanoid in March 2025 at 199,000 yuan (about 27,500 dollars). On 27 June 2025, at an event in Nagoya with Japanese integrator ASKA Corporation, it announced series production and handed over the first batch live.
On 4 February 2026 production and delivery of a third ATOM batch began, after two earlier delivery rounds paired with application testing. The ATOM family includes the Max (research and industry), a Trainer version and ATOM D for data collection.
Design and technology
DOBOT lists ATOM Max with 41 degrees of freedom and dexterous 6-DoF hands. It sees through a 60 fps Full HD stereo camera and an Intel RealSense D455 depth camera, and runs on a 1500 TOPS onboard AI module. DOBOT claims sub-millimeter precision and 360-degree environmental awareness.
The base ATOM walks with straight knees like a person (its AWS system), which DOBOT says cuts energy use by 42% compared with bent-knee walking. The arms have ±0.05 mm repeatability and the upper body has 28 controlled degrees of freedom. We did not find height or weight for the Max in DOBOT's own materials.
Software and AI
Hand motion is handled by the Neuro-Driven Dexterity System (NDS), a Transformer-based controller running at 200 Hz. Task decomposition comes from ROM-1 (Robot Operator Model-1), a 100-million-parameter model trained with imitation and reinforcement learning; in 2026 DOBOT also described its own DOBOT-VLA model.
The Max supports markerless VR/MR teleoperation in full-body or segmented modes. An optional Embodied AI Set adds high-precision URDF models, an open-source training framework and multimodal data tools.
Applications and deployments
DOBOT targets material handling on automotive assembly lines, assembly, electronics soldering, calibration, drink preparation and pharmacy work. Germany's Terra Robotics tested an ATOM at a site in Loehne and reported repeatable motion and reliable gripping in structured settings, with limited independent decision-making. DOBOT has not published delivery counts.
Manufacturer
DOBOT (Shenzhen Yuejiang Technology) makes collaborative robots and says it has deployed more than 100,000 cobots worldwide. It builds ATOM in a facility that also produces wheeled and quadruped robots.
Price and availability
The base ATOM launched at 199,000 yuan. DOBOT does not publish Max pricing on its website, and reseller prices vary widely by configuration.
