DYNA Robotics Taku (Dyna-2.1)

In development

Taku is a semi-humanoid from US company DYNA Robotics, introduced in late September 2026 alongside its Dyna-2.1 system. It has a humanoid upper body with two 7-DoF arms, a folding lower body for reaching low and high, and a base on four steerable wheels. In its debut demo it ran a hotel laundry room autonomously for an uncut hour: washing, drying and folding towels.

History and launch

DYNA's earlier models targeted stationary robots: Dyna-1 folded napkins for 24 hours without intervention on the task itself, and Dyna-2, pre-trained on human video, passed 87% of customer acceptance tests zero-shot at new sites according to DYNA (versus 46% for Dyna-1). But a single task still needed a person to refill bins and clear stacks, and customers told DYNA they pay for a role, not a task.

That led to Taku and Dyna-2.1, described on 28-29 September 2026 as the first physical agent able to run hour-long, non-linear workflows combining movement and dexterous manipulation. The name comes from the Japanese takumi (匠), meaning master craftsman.

Design and technology

Taku has a 21-DoF upper body including two 7-DoF arms. A folding lower body lets it reach deep into a dryer, crouch to a bottom shelf or reach overhead. It moves between stations on four steerable wheels, because DYNA argues the target workflows need reach and precision rather than legs.

Above the wheels it is sized like an average person so that tracked human wrist, elbow and chest poses map easily onto the robot. The arms use low-ratio planetary actuators, allowing higher speeds and accelerations than the harmonic drives common in robot arms.

Software and AI

The system has three layers. A workflow orchestrator built on a vision-language model tracks progress, remembers things like how many towels are folded, and chooses the next step. The Dyna-2 world-action policy (about 5 Hz) executes skills, and an RL-trained whole-body controller runs at 100 Hz.

Teleoperation, egocentric human video and handheld UMI gripper data all go into a shared motion representation, URR (wrists, elbows, chest and footprint poses). The policy was pre-trained on one million hours of human video mixed with fleet data, then fine-tuned for Taku's body.

Applications and company

Commercial laundry is one of DYNA's main deployment verticals; it has also shown Taku servicing servers and fetching a drink from a fridge. DYNA Robotics describes itself as building the full embodied AI stack from hardware to foundation models and offers customer pilots. In May 2026 it wrote about 10 months of experience with robots in real customer environments. No price for Taku has been given.
