PM01 is a lightweight bipedal humanoid about 1.4 m tall from EngineAI of Shenzhen. It is sold as an open platform for universities, developers and service businesses, and drew attention for its RMB 88,000 launch price and a front-flip video.
History and launch
EngineAI was founded in October 2023. It showed the full-size SE01, with a human-like gait, in October 2024, and opened global sales of PM01 on December 24, 2024.
PM01 came in commercial and education versions, both priced at RMB 88,000 (about $12,000) until March 31, 2025. EngineAI promoted it with a front somersault video and called it the first humanoid to do one.
Design and hardware
The 2026 edition measures 140 × 54 × 25 cm and weighs about 44 kg with battery (launch materials said 1.38 m and about 40 kg). It has 24 powered joints: 6 per leg, 5 per arm, 1 in the waist and 1 in the neck. The waist turns more than 300° (320° in launch materials).
EngineAI's own joint modules use permanent-magnet synchronous motors and crossed roller bearings, reaching 164 Nm peak torque and 145 Nm/kg torque density. The frame is aircraft-grade aluminium with forced-air cooling.
Top speed is over 2 m/s. A quick-swap battery lasts about 2 hours and recharges in 2 hours. Perception relies on two wide-angle stereo cameras (head and waist); the Navigation edition adds 3D LiDAR. A chest touchscreen with a ring light serves for interaction.
Software and AI
Motion comes from an end-to-end neural network trained in simulation on optical motion-capture data with adversarial learning. Compute is an 8-core CPU plus an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 16 GB.
EngineAI provides low-level hardware interfaces, open-source training (reinforcement learning) and deployment code, and a ROS deployment framework.
Deployments
PM01 targets research, education, commercial service and demos. In a Laifen store in Shenzhen it served customers at a hair-drying station. The Robot Report wrote in late 2024 that EngineAI had delivered nearly 100 robots in five months.
Company
EngineAI Robotics Technology is headquartered in Shenzhen. Besides PM01 it makes the full-size SE01 and T800 humanoids, the SA01 biped platform, the S2 service robot and the JS01 quadruped. It raised seed funding in August 2024.
Price and availability
The RMB 88,000 launch price ended on March 31, 2025. Current prices come from EngineAI and its distributors; Education and Navigation editions are offered.

Data and provenance for AI agents ↗Compared with the catalogue
- At 138 cm the EngineAI PM01 is taller than 12% of the humanoids in the catalogue (median: 170 cm).
- It has 24 degrees of freedom against a catalogue median of 28; more degrees of freedom usually means finer arm and hand movement.
- Its weight of 44 kg (catalogue median: 65 kg) matters for transport and for working around people.
- It is one of 2 EngineAI models in the catalogue and one of 128 humanoids from China.
