Design and hardware

The product page lists 180 cm, 67 kg, 10 kg per arm and walking speed up to 1.2 m/s (the spec table also says 7.6 km/h). It has 55 in-house MPA 3.0 actuators with peak torque density of 196 Nm/kg and a wide joint range. The neck and torso use flexible enclosure material that allows more complex postures and safer contact.

The third-generation five-finger hands have 22 DoF, tactile sensors and hybrid force-position control. The robot carries eight RGB cameras, optional LiDAR and ultrasonic sensors, a noise- and echo-cancelling microphone array, a speaker and a facial-expression display. A custom 2.28 kWh battery gives about 5 hours of operation, charges in 45 minutes and works with an autonomous charging base. Power and data cabling are routed internally.

Software and AI

Onboard compute is an 8-core processor with integrated GPU running a real-time OS; Matrix says AI compute is four times that of the previous generation. The robot uses a vision-language model for visual reasoning, a dialogue model co-trained with LLM vendors and the MLM 2.0 manipulation model, and learns skills through imitation and reinforcement learning.

Applications

Matrix gives examples such as opening different door handles, recognising people and objects at a distance, patrolling office buildings and checking staff IDs, handing control to a human operator when a decision is needed. No customers or unit numbers have been disclosed.

Manufacturer and successors

Matrix Robotics describes its team as drawn from AI, humanoid robotics and autonomous driving, and its CEO is Allen Zhang. On 10 January 2026 it announced MATRIX-3, with a 3D-woven "biomimetic skin", a cable-driven 27-DoF hand and fingertip sensors that detect pressure down to 0.1 N. First MATRIX-3 pilot deployments with partners were expected from mid-2026.

Price and availability

MATRIX-1 is listed as coming soon with no price; inquiries go through the company's contact form.
