Reachy 2 is an open-source humanoid from Pollen Robotics of Bordeaux, France: a dual-arm torso with a head on an omnidirectional mobile base, aimed at AI and robotics labs. It costs US$70,000. Pollen Robotics has been part of Hugging Face since April 2025.
History and launch
The original Reachy launched at CES 2020, and in 2021 Pollen added VR teleoperation using standard headsets such as the Meta Quest 2. The company says around 100 first-generation Reachy robots went to labs in about 20 countries.
In 2022 Pollen took second place and US$2 million in the ANA Avatar XPRIZE with an early version of what became Reachy 2. The finished Reachy 2 launched in 2024 with a new 3D vision system and stronger arms; Pollen had been working with Hugging Face on it since June 2024.
Design and hardware
Each arm has 7 DoF and mirrors the size, proportions and movement of an adult human arm, lifting up to about 3 kg. The neck and wrists use Pollen's Orbita 2D and 3D parallel actuators.
Height adjusts from 136 to 166 cm, and the full robot with its mobile base weighs up to 50 kg. The base has three omniwheels, a sensor suite and LiDAR, while vision comes from a stereo camera and an RGB-D camera. Onboard compute is CPU-based, without a dedicated AI accelerator.
Software and AI
Hardware and software are open source under Apache 2.0. The robot runs ROS 2 Humble and is programmed through a Python SDK. A VR teleoperation app lets operators move the arms, hands and head and see through the robot's cameras, which also serves to collect manipulation training data. Resources are published on Hugging Face.
Applications and deployments
Reachy 2 targets labs working on real-world manipulation in offices, homes, hospitals and shops. According to Hugging Face, in April 2025 it was in use at Cornell and Carnegie Mellon, among others, and Pollen's robots had reached more than 20 countries.
Manufacturer
Pollen Robotics was founded in 2016 by Matthieu Lapeyre and Pierre Rouanet, former developmental robotics researchers in Inria's Flowers team and creators of the 3D-printed Poppy humanoid. After seven years funded by sales, it raised a €2.4 million seed round in April 2023. Hugging Face announced its acquisition of Pollen on 14 April 2025 without disclosing terms. Pollen also makes the small desktop robot Reachy Mini.
Price and availability
Reachy 2 costs US$70,000 and is ordered through Pollen's sales team.

Data and provenance for AI agents ↗Compared with the catalogue
- At 140 cm the Pollen Robotics Reachy 2 is taller than 13% of the humanoids in the catalogue (median: 170 cm).
- It has 17 degrees of freedom against a catalogue median of 28; more degrees of freedom usually means finer arm and hand movement.
- Its weight of 40 kg (catalogue median: 65 kg) matters for transport and for working around people.
- It is the only Pollen Robotics model in the catalogue and one of 3 humanoids from France.
