PX5 was XPeng's first bipedal humanoid, shown publicly on October 24, 2023 at XPeng Tech Day. About 1.5 m tall, it was a research prototype that led to the later IRON series.
History and launch
PX5 debuted at XPeng Tech Day 2023. The company said stable walking took five months of development and that the project grew out of its earlier quadruped robots. Chairman He Xiaopeng said later versions would be larger, with longer strides.
Hardware
The robot was about 1.5 m tall with a silver-white shell. Its lightweight 7-DoF arm weighed 5 kg, lifted up to 3 kg and repeated positions to 0.05 mm. The hand had 11 degrees of freedom; two fingers weighed 430 g in total and gripped with up to 1 kg of force. XPeng did not publish the full robot's weight.
PX5 walked with straight knees and long strides over grass and rocks, kept its balance when kicked and, according to XPeng, walked for more than two hours indoors and outdoors.
Demos and plans
Demos showed it kicking a football, riding a Xiaomi self-balancing scooter, holding a screwdriver, lifting boxes and pouring water. XPeng aimed to put PX5 into factories and stores by the following Tech Day for patrols and retail support, but in 2024 it unveiled the larger IRON instead.
Price and availability
PX5 was never sold.
