IRON is the humanoid robot from Chinese EV maker XPeng. The current generation, unveiled in November 2025, is designed to look as human as possible, with soft skin, a flexible spine and life-size hands. XPeng started its production line in September 2026 and plans deliveries in 2027.

History and launch

XPeng showed the bipedal PX5 prototype in October 2023 and a first IRON (178 cm, 70 kg) in November 2024, which it trialled in its car factory. The current IRON debuted at XPeng Tech Day on November 5, 2025.

On September 8, 2026, XPeng announced from Guangzhou that its automated humanoid production line was running. The first unit walked off the line on its own after final assembly. XPeng says more than 80% of core processes are automated and that the line uses automotive-grade quality systems.

Hardware

The design follows a bone, muscle and skin approach: a flexible spine, synthetic muscles and soft full-body skin over an enclosed, flexible lattice structure. The November 2025 prototype had 22-DoF hands. The production version announced in September 2026 has, according to XPeng, 76 degrees of freedom across the body and 21 in each hand.

XPeng says IRON is the first humanoid to run on an all-solid-state battery. It has not published capacity or runtime.

Software and AI

Three in-house Turing AI chips deliver up to 2,250 TOPS in the production version. XPeng's physical AI foundation model runs on the robot itself, which the company says lets IRON complete tasks without remote human control while cutting latency and keeping data local. The architecture splits dialogue, interaction and movement into separate brains.

XPeng also carries over safety ideas from its cars, such as indoor automatic emergency braking, and promises that users' private data never leaves the robot.

Use cases and deployments

First commercial deployments are planned in XPeng's own stores and campuses, for example greeting and assisting visitors. Early work will focus on dangerous and repetitive tasks, with the long-term aim of a general-purpose platform and, in the CEO's words, a companion in people's lives.

Manufacturer

XPeng is a Guangzhou-based EV maker. In August 2026 its robotics business raised more than $900 million at a post-money valuation above $6.3 billion, led by IDG Capital with Gaorong participating and Tencent and Alibaba as strategic investors. XPeng keeps about 82% and is moving robotics staff and IP into a standalone subsidiary. Targets are over 1,000 robots a month and one million units by 2030.

Price and availability

Mass production is scheduled by the end of 2026, with official launch and deliveries in China and overseas planned for 2027. No price has been announced and there is no public preorder.

Compared with the catalogue

  • At 178 cm the Xpeng IRON is taller than 83% of the humanoids in the catalogue (median: 170 cm).
  • It has 62 degrees of freedom against a catalogue median of 28; more degrees of freedom usually means finer arm and hand movement.
  • Its weight of 70 kg (catalogue median: 65 kg) matters for transport and for working around people.
  • It is one of 3 Xpeng models in the catalogue and one of 128 humanoids from China.
