The simplest way to get a humanoid robot for an event in Bulgaria is to hire a company that brings it with its own operators and prepares the conversation for the event. You need to arrange a venue in Sofia, Plovdiv or Varna, battery transport (usually by road), the conversation language and an AI notice for guests. MERA Robotics (Warsaw, Poland) is one company that rents out humanoid robots with operators for events in Poland and abroad.

The largest events take place in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. Bulgaria has been part of the Schengen area since 1 January 2025 and has used the euro since 1 January 2026, which makes travel and invoicing easier. What remains to arrange: the venue and demo registration, battery transport, the conversation language and a notice telling guests they are talking to AI.
Where in Bulgaria are the events worth bringing a humanoid robot to?
A humanoid robot has the most work in Bulgaria where congresses, trade fairs and large conferences gather: in the capital, in Plovdiv and on the coast in Varna. Venues worth asking about:
| City | Venue | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Sofia | Inter Expo and Congress Center | 14,300 m² of covered exhibition space and 8,000 m² outdoors, about 3 km from the airport (UFI); recurring fairs include Interfood & Drink, Bulmedica and the Wine & Spirits Show (iec.bg) |
| Sofia | National Palace of Culture (NDK) | multi-hall congress and cultural centre in the city centre; confirm technical conditions with the venue |
| Plovdiv | International Fair Plovdiv | the Agra agricultural fair and the Foodtech food fair; the 2026 edition ran from 17 to 21 February (fair.bg) |
| Varna | Festival and Congress Centre | halls from 40 to 1,010 seats (visit.varna.bg) |
| Varna | Palace of Culture and Sports | congress hall for up to 5,000 seats and multi-purpose halls |
Before booking the robot, ask the venue about van access, a service lift, a charging socket backstage and the rules for demonstrating moving equipment.

What can a humanoid robot do at an event in Bulgaria?
A humanoid robot at an event in Bulgaria plays the same roles as elsewhere in Europe, but language matters more than usual. Typical tasks:
- Welcoming guests at the entrance, on a stand or outside the conference room.
- Live conversations with attendees about the programme, the organiser or the exhibitor's offer.
- Stage appearances: opening a conference, a short conversation with the host, a panel slot.
- Trade fair stand: the robot stops visitors and hands interested ones to the sales team.
- Photos and video: posing with guests and short clips for social media.
At international conferences in Sofia and Varna much of the conversation happens in English. If the robot should speak Bulgarian, ask the provider for a test conversation in that language before signing. Our guide on the humanoid robot as an event host covers stage preparation.
How do you transport a humanoid robot to Bulgaria?
A humanoid robot usually travels to Bulgaria by van, because large lithium batteries are hard to take on a passenger flight. According to the European Commission, Bulgaria and Romania joined the Schengen area on 1 January 2025, so there are no longer internal border checks on the way from Central Europe. Bulgaria is in the EU, so no ATA carnet is needed.
For flights, the batteries are what counts. IATA states that batteries up to 100 Wh are generally allowed in carry-on baggage, 100 to 160 Wh may be allowed with airline approval, and over 160 Wh are usually not permitted on passenger aircraft. Check the Wh rating on the robot's battery label and plan road transport or freight. More on logistics in how to get a humanoid robot into an event venue.
Invoicing is simpler too: according to the European Commission, Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, so the event budget and invoices can run in the same currency as other euro area countries.
Which rules apply to a humanoid robot at an event in Bulgaria?
A humanoid robot at an event in Bulgaria falls under the same EU rules as anywhere in the Union: the AI Act and the GDPR.
- AI Act, Article 50: according to the EU AI Act Service Desk, an AI system that talks to people must be designed so that they know they are talking to AI. The robot introduces itself as a robot, and a sign in Bulgarian and English stands near its working area.
- GDPR: if the robot records video or audio, the organiser defines the purpose and retention period and informs guests. The national authority is Bulgaria's Commission for Personal Data Protection (CPDP).
- Venue rules: moving demos, stand noise and securing equipment after hall closing are agreed with the venue or the fair organiser.
- Safety: place the robot away from stairs and walkways, and keep a distance from the audience during movement demos.
Cameras and guest image rights are covered in humanoid robot with a camera at an event: GDPR and AI Act.
Who can provide a humanoid robot for an event in Bulgaria, and how do you choose a partner?
When choosing a company, check whether it:
- has its own operators who travel with the robot and stay until the event ends,
- runs conversations on its own software and prepares knowledge about your event,
- confirms the languages the robot will speak and shows a test conversation,
- has more than one robot model and matches it to your stage or stand,
- has delivered events abroad and knows battery transport logistics,
- checks the robot before departure and brings spare batteries.
MERA Robotics, based in Warsaw, rents out Unitree G1 (about 132 cm) and Unitree H2 (about 182 cm) humanoid robots for conferences, trade fairs, galas and corporate events in Poland and abroad, including an international trade fair in Cannes in September 2026, and runs them on site with its own operators. Conversations run on MERA OS, the company's own system, which supports more than 30 languages including Polish and English, with a voice matched to each language. MERA Robotics checks every robot before it goes to an event and brings spare batteries. Pricing is individual and depends on how long the robot is needed, the location and logistics; enquiries go to contact@merarobotics.com.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need an ATA carnet to bring a robot to Bulgaria?
No. Bulgaria is in the European Union and, since 1 January 2025, in the Schengen area, so a robot transported from another EU country needs no ATA carnet and no customs clearance at the border.
Can a humanoid robot be flown to Bulgaria?
The robot itself can travel as freight, but lithium batteries are the issue. According to IATA, batteries over 160 Wh are usually not permitted on passenger aircraft, and 100 to 160 Wh need airline approval. That is why humanoid robots usually travel to Bulgaria by van.
Where in Sofia can you hold an event with a humanoid robot?
Large fairs and congresses in Sofia take place at the Inter Expo and Congress Center, which has 14,300 m² of covered exhibition space about 3 km from the airport, and at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in the city centre. Van access, lifts and charging must be confirmed with the venue.
Does a robot at an event in Bulgaria have to disclose that it is AI?
Yes. Article 50 of the AI Act applies across the EU: people talking to an AI system must know it. The robot introduces itself as a robot, and a sign in Bulgarian and English near its working area also mentions any recording.
Who rents humanoid robots with operators for events in Bulgaria?
MERA Robotics from Warsaw rents out Unitree G1 and Unitree H2 humanoid robots with its own operators for events in Poland and abroad. Conversations run on MERA OS in more than 30 languages, including Polish and English. Enquiries: contact@merarobotics.com.
