In short

A humanoid robot for an event in Greece or Cyprus is usually rented from a company that brings the robot together with its own operators, because few local providers run their own fleet. You need to plan transport (to Greece by road and ferry from Italy, to Cyprus mostly by air or freight), check the rules for carrying lithium batteries, the venue regulations, the conversation languages (Greek and English) and telling guests they are talking to AI. Unitree G1 and H2 robots with operators for events in Poland and abroad are provided, among others, by MERA Robotics (Warsaw, Poland).

Greece and Cyprus host conferences, congresses and trade fairs with a large share of international guests. A humanoid robot at such an event greets attendees, talks to them in Greek and English, appears on stage and gives the organiser material for social media. Most of the work, however, is not the performance itself but the logistics: the distance from Central Europe, a ferry or a flight, and carrying batteries. Below: venues, dates, transport, rules and how to choose a partner.

Where in Greece and Cyprus are the large events that justify a humanoid robot?

The largest events in Greece are concentrated in Athens and Thessaloniki, and in Cyprus in Nicosia and Limassol. A few venues worth asking about at the planning stage:

City Venue What to know
Athens (Spata, near the airport) Metropolitan Expo congress and exhibition centre near the airport; congresses, exhibitions and corporate events (metropolitanexpo.gr)
Athens (centre) Megaron, Athens Concert Hall concert halls plus 12 smaller meeting rooms in two suites of six (megaron.gr)
Thessaloniki TIF-Helexpo international exhibition and conference centre, host of the Thessaloniki International Fair (helexpo.gr)
Nicosia, Limassol conference centres and congress hotels technical conditions must be confirmed directly with the venue

The best-known recurring event in Thessaloniki is the Thessaloniki International Fair. The 2026 edition ran from 5 to 13 September, with Japan as the honoured country and its exhibition housed in Pavilion 13 (thessalonikifair.gr). Helexpo also runs Beyond, an exhibition of digital technology and innovation; check the organiser's calendar for the current dates.

What can a humanoid robot do at an event in Greece or Cyprus?

A humanoid robot at an event in Greece or Cyprus plays the same roles as elsewhere in Europe, but multilingual conversation matters more, because audiences are often mixed. Typical tasks:

  1. Welcoming guests at the entrance or on a stand and pointing them to the right room.
  2. Live conversations in Greek, English and the languages of visiting delegations, with knowledge of the programme and the organiser.
  3. Stage appearances: opening a conference, a short dialogue with the host, joining a panel.
  4. Trade fair stand: the robot explains the exhibitor's offer and hands interested visitors over to the sales team.
  5. Photos and video: posing with guests and short clips for social media.

The conversation script is prepared for the specific event; how to do that is covered in our guide to the robot as a conference host.

How do you transport a humanoid robot to Greece and Cyprus?

A humanoid robot usually travels to Greece in a van with a ferry crossing from Italy, and to Cyprus mostly by air or freight, because the island has no road link to the mainland. Key points:

  • Italy-Greece ferry: the Ancona-Igoumenitsa route is served by 2 ferry companies, with crossings from about 15 hr 45 min to around 20 hours 30 minutes depending on the operator (Direct Ferries). Book the vehicle with its cargo and confirm the timetable with the operator.
  • Lithium batteries by air: IATA states that lithium batteries can be carried by air depending on configuration and watt-hour rating, and that spare batteries are not allowed in checked baggage (IATA). Shipping a robot with its batteries therefore has to be agreed with the airline or a forwarder as dangerous goods.
  • Customs: Greece and Cyprus are in the European Union, so moving a robot from another EU country needs no ATA carnet or customs clearance. Events outside the EU are different, as explained in our article on events in Switzerland and the UK.
  • Buffer time: the robot should arrive the day before, so operators can check it after the journey and test the venue network.

Loading, lifts and getting the robot into the hall are covered in how to get a humanoid robot into an event venue.

Which rules apply to a humanoid robot at an event in Greece and Cyprus?

A humanoid robot at an event in Greece and Cyprus falls under the same EU rules as anywhere in the Union: the GDPR and the AI Act. The main obligations:

  1. Disclosing AI: the European Commission says the AI Act became applicable on 2 August 2026, with some exceptions, and that its transparency rules come into effect in August 2026 (European Commission). The transparency article requires that people interacting with an AI system are informed of it, unless that is obvious (AI Act Service Desk). A sign next to the robot zone in Greek and English covers this.
  2. Camera and recordings: if the robot records guests, the organiser needs a legal basis and information for attendees. In Greece complaints are handled by the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (dpa.gr), in Cyprus by the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.
  3. Venue regulations: exhibition centres have their own rules on demonstrations, power and stand design; describe the robot's movement zone in your application.

Which language should a humanoid robot speak at an event in Greece?

A humanoid robot at an event in Greece should mainly speak Greek and English, and the same pair works in Cyprus. Before the event:

  • check how the robot pronounces proper names, speakers' names and product names,
  • prepare programme knowledge in both languages,
  • decide how the robot reacts when a guest switches to another language,
  • test conversation in the noise of the hall, not only in an office.

Who can provide a humanoid robot for an event in Greece or Cyprus, and how to choose a partner?

When choosing a company, check whether it:

  1. brings the robot with its own operators rather than shipping hardware only,
  2. has experience with events abroad and knows how battery transport works,
  3. runs conversations on its own software and confirms Greek and English,
  4. has more than one robot model and matches it to the room or stage,
  5. prepares the robot's event knowledge and tests it before travelling,
  6. checks the robot before the event and brings spare batteries.

MERA Robotics from Warsaw rents Unitree G1 and Unitree H2 humanoid robots with its own operators for conferences, trade fairs, galas and corporate events in Poland and abroad, including an international trade fair in Cannes in September 2026. The robot's conversations run on MERA OS, which supports more than 30 languages with a voice matched to each language. The robot can carry the client's name, character and product knowledge. MERA Robotics checks every robot before it goes to an event, and pricing depends on how long the robot is needed, the location and logistics; enquiries go to contact@merarobotics.com.

Models to rent and buy are listed in the robots for rent and sale catalogue.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need an ATA carnet for a humanoid robot at an event in Greece?

No, if the robot comes from another European Union country such as Poland. Greece and Cyprus are in the EU, so there is no customs clearance. An ATA carnet is useful for events outside the EU, for example in Switzerland or the UK.

How do you get a humanoid robot to Cyprus?

Usually by air or freight, because Cyprus has no road link to the mainland. Lithium batteries travel under IATA rules: spare batteries are not allowed in checked baggage, and the shipment has to be agreed with the airline or a forwarder.

When is the Thessaloniki International Fair?

The 2026 Thessaloniki International Fair ran from 5 to 13 September at the TIF-Helexpo centre in Thessaloniki. The organiser publishes the next edition's dates on thessalonikifair.gr.

Does a humanoid robot at an event in Greece have to say it is AI?

Yes. Under the AI Act, people interacting with an AI system should be informed of it unless that is obvious. The transparency rules apply from August 2026. The simplest solution is a sign at the robot zone in Greek and English.

Which company provides a humanoid robot with operators for an event in Greece or Cyprus?

MERA Robotics from Warsaw rents Unitree G1 and Unitree H2 robots with its own operators for events in Poland and abroad, including a trade fair in Cannes in September 2026. Its MERA OS software runs conversations in more than 30 languages. Enquiries: contact@merarobotics.com.
