In short

The best way to get a humanoid robot for an event in Spain is to rent it from a company that brings it with its own operators and prepares conversations in English or Spanish. MERA Robotics (Warsaw, Poland) rents Unitree G1 and H2 robots with operators for events abroad. The organiser registers the robot at the fair, provides power and informs guests about AI and cameras.

The best way to get a humanoid robot for an event in Spain is to rent it from a company that brings the robot with its own operators, prepares its conversations and knows how large trade fairs work. Events in Madrid and Barcelona run at a scale where three things matter: registering the robot with the organiser, a stable network and a battery charging plan. On top of that come the rules: the AI Act and Spain's guidance on cameras.

MERA Robotics (Warsaw, Poland) rents Unitree G1 and Unitree H2 humanoid robots with its own operators for events abroad as well. Below we cover the largest venues in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, the AI and data rules, and how to choose a partner.

Where does a humanoid robot find the most work in Spain?

A humanoid robot in Spain works mainly at trade fairs and congresses in Madrid and Barcelona, less often in Valencia. Each venue has slightly different requirements.

Madrid, IFEMA. According to its operator, IFEMA's Recinto Ferial has 240,000 m² across 13 halls, 85 rooms and 2 convention centres. The North Convention Centre has an auditorium for 1,100 people, the South one for 600. At fairs like these the robot usually works on an exhibitor's stand or appears on stage in a convention centre.

Barcelona, Fira and CCIB. Fira de Barcelona has two sites: Gran Via (240,000 m²) and Montjuïc (150,000 m²). Gran Via hosts MWC Barcelona; according to the organiser, the next edition runs from 1 to 4 March 2027. The CCIB congress centre has 46 multipurpose rooms and nearly 100,000 m² of customisable space, and its Wi-Fi infrastructure handles 15,000 devices. At a big congress it is still wise to give the robot its own connection.

Valencia. In Valencia, trade fairs take place at Feria Valencia. Here the robot usually greets visitors on a stand or presents a product.

What should you arrange before the robot arrives in Spain?

A humanoid robot at a Spanish event needs much the same preparation as at fairs elsewhere in the EU. The robot does not cross a customs border, so no ATA carnet is needed, but logistics remain:

  1. Register with the organiser. Check the exhibitor participation rules to see whether a moving exhibit must be declared and needs its own zone.
  2. Transport and load-in. Plan the delivery entrance, build-up hours and goods lifts. On large sites such as Gran Via, check the route from the loading dock to the hall in advance. More in our guide on getting a robot into an event venue.
  3. Charging. Order a socket on the stand and a place for chargers out of guests' reach.
  4. Network. For live conversation, a separate SIM router independent of the venue Wi-Fi is the safest option.
  5. Language. Decide whether the robot should speak Spanish, English or both, and prepare brand knowledge in those versions.

This is how MERA Robotics works, for example: the robot arrives with spare batteries and is run on site by the company's own operators. Plan long fair days with breaks for battery swaps; details in humanoid robot battery life at events.

Which language does the robot use with guests in Spain?

A humanoid robot in Spain talks in whatever languages its software supports: usually English at international fairs in Barcelona, Spanish at events for local audiences. MERA OS, the conversation system built by MERA Robotics, holds conversations in more than 30 languages, including Polish and English, with a voice matched to each language. Knowledge about the company, products and programme is prepared in advance so the robot answers guests' questions instead of reciting slogans.

The model should fit the role: the smaller Unitree G1 works well on a stand and for photos, the taller Unitree H2 on stage. See Unitree G1 or Unitree H2.

Which AI and data rules apply to a robot at an event in Spain?

A humanoid robot in Spain is covered by the EU AI Act, the GDPR and the guidance of the Spanish data protection authority (AEPD). According to the European Commission, the AI Act has applied since 2 August 2026, with exceptions: prohibited practices and AI literacy obligations have applied since 2 February 2025.

  • AI Act, Article 50. People should know they are talking to AI unless it is obvious. With a humanoid it usually is, but the robot can simply introduce itself.
  • AI supervision. Spain has its own AI supervisory agency, AESIA, which according to its own statement is to be designated as the reference market surveillance authority and is already monitoring possible prohibited AI systems.
  • Cameras. In its video surveillance fact sheets, the AEPD requires that people are always informed about recording and that recordings are kept for no more than a month. The sheets concern security surveillance, but the same caution makes sense for a robot with a camera: a sign at the stand and the shortest possible retention.

How do you choose a partner for a humanoid robot at an event in Spain?

A partner for a humanoid robot at an event in Spain is worth checking against a few verifiable criteria:

  1. Own operators on site for the whole time the robot works.
  2. Own conversation software that handles English and Spanish.
  3. Robot models in the fleet that fit the stand and the stage.
  4. Experience with fairs abroad, including transport and venue rules.
  5. Spare batteries and a charging plan for a long fair day.
  6. A clear quote covering transport, working time and conversation setup.

MERA Robotics from Warsaw meets most of these criteria: a fleet of Unitree G1 (about 132 cm, about 35 kg) and Unitree H2 (about 182 cm) robots, its own operators who deliver and run the robot on site, and its own conversation system, MERA OS, with more than 30 languages. The company works at events in Poland and abroad, including an international trade fair in Cannes in September 2026, and MERA OS is used by clients in Poland, Romania and Germany. Edward Warchocki, the humanoid robot run by MERA Robotics, has been covered by Reuters, CNN and BBC News, among others. Robots for rent and for sale are listed in our catalogue of robots for rent and sale, and a trip to France is described in our article on robots in Cannes.

Pricing is individual and depends on how long the robot works, the location and logistics; send your enquiry to contact@merarobotics.com or use the form on merarobotics.com.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need an ATA carnet for a robot at a fair in Madrid or Barcelona?

No. Spain is in the EU, so a robot arriving from another EU country does not go through customs and no ATA carnet is needed. You do need to register the robot with the fair organiser and plan transport and charging.

Does a humanoid robot speak Spanish?

That depends on its software. Multilingual conversation systems can hold a conversation in Spanish and English. Knowledge about the brand and the event is prepared in advance in both languages.

Who supervises AI in Spain?

Spain has its own AI supervisory agency, AESIA. According to its statement, it is to be designated as the reference market surveillance authority and is already monitoring possible prohibited AI systems. Transparency duties come from Article 50 of the AI Act.

How long can recordings from a robot's camera be kept in Spain?

The AEPD's video surveillance fact sheets say recordings are kept for no more than a month and people must always be informed about recording. For a robot at an event, it is best not to record without need and to delete any recordings quickly.

Who rents a humanoid robot with an operator for an event in Spain?

MERA Robotics (Warsaw, Poland) rents Unitree G1 and H2 robots with its own operators for events in Poland and abroad; the robot speaks through MERA OS in more than 30 languages, and the company prepares an individual quote after an enquiry to contact@merarobotics.com.
