Qinglong ("Green Dragon") is a full-size humanoid from Shanghai, developed by a state-backed innovation center and released as an open reference platform through the OpenLoong community. The first version was shown in July 2024, and further models joined the family in 2025.

History and launch

Qinglong debuted on 4 July 2024 at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai as a "public version" robot, a reference design that other companies and universities can build on. The OpenLoong community website, with its hardware structure and parameters, went live the same day.

Chief scientist Jiang Lei said the center would release a new model each year named after a Chinese zodiac animal. At WAIC 2025 in July 2025 the center presented a Qinglong family including Pro, Lite and Wheel models, spanning bipedal and wheeled-arm designs. According to local media, the latest version, Qinglong 3.0, gained a general-purpose backpack with 5G, BeiDou positioning and Ascend compute modules to improve outdoor positioning and perception. A full V3.0 specification (height, weight, degrees of freedom) was not available in the sources we reviewed.

Design and technology

According to the developer, the original Qinglong is 185 cm tall, weighs 80 kg, has 43 active degrees of freedom and a peak joint torque of 400 Nm, with 400 TOPS of onboard compute. The design pairs strong legs with lighter, precise arms.

In demos it walked quickly, avoided obstacles, handled slopes and recovered from pushes; on a voice command it picked up a bread roll and put it in a basket.

The 2025 Qinglong Pro adds visible-light, thermal and gas sensors and a positioning system that works both indoors and outdoors.

Software and AI

Control is split between two of the center's models: "Zhuque" acts as the brain for task planning and "Xuanwu" as the cerebellum for precise motion control. OpenLoong operates under the OpenAtom Foundation and is meant to share hardware designs and software with developers.

Applications and deployments

The original Qinglong is mainly a research and reference platform. The 2025 models target security and manufacturing, education and tourism, and industrial and urban services. We found no data on units sold.

Manufacturer

The robot was built by Humanoid Robots (Shanghai) Limited, an R&D body set up by leading industry companies with registered capital of 1 billion yuan. In May 2024 China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology designated it the National and Local Co-built Humanoid Robot Innovation Center. Jiang Lei is chief scientist and Xu Bin general manager.

Price and availability

No price has been published. Documentation for the public version is available through the OpenLoong community.
