Walker Tienkung is a full-size, all-electric series of running research humanoids co-developed by UBTECH Robotics and the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, makers of the Tien Kung robot. It stands 173 cm tall, has up to 42 degrees of freedom and open interfaces to every joint and sensor, and is aimed at universities, labs and education.

Design and hardware

The series comes in three versions, all 1730 mm tall: the base Walker Tienkung (TK2101, 64 kg, 20 joints), Voice & Vision (TK2201, 68 kg, 21 joints) and Embodied Intelligence (TK2301, 75 kg, 42 joints). The top version has 3 DoF in the head, 7 per arm, 6 per hand, 1 in the waist and 6 per leg, with dexterous five-finger hands and six-axis wrist force sensors; the cheaper versions use 4-DoF arms.

The body is aluminum alloy and engineering plastics, and each joint integrates motor, reducer and encoder. A 48 V lithium pack (30 Ah plus 3 Ah) with a dual-battery quick-swap system gives more than 3.5 hours of operation and charges in under 4 hours. Motion control runs on an Intel Core i7-1355U, while AI development uses one or two NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin 64 GB modules (up to 550 TOPS combined). Vision versions add RGB-D cameras in the head, waist and back and a voice module with four microphones.

A CAN/EtherCAT bus allows leg control at 1 kHz or more and arm control at up to 400 Hz.

Software and AI

The robot runs Ubuntu 22.04 with ROS. It walks, runs, stays balanced on slopes and sand and rejects external pushes using reinforcement learning-based control. UBTECH provides high-fidelity URDF models, open training frameworks with AMP-style reinforcement learning, a gait training and deployment guide and an imitation-learning grasping example.

The Voice & Vision and Embodied Intelligence versions can run large language models for voice interaction. UBTECH plans to release datasets progressively, with multi-view RGB-D images, robot state and natural-language task descriptions. Teleoperation and data collection are supported.

Applications and deployments

UBTECH sells Walker Tienkung through its AI education division as a platform for research, teaching and secondary development. The manual states that the factory configuration is intended for research and education and prohibits use in public spaces without safety measures or in high-risk work such as rescue or medical care.

Manufacturer

The robot was co-developed by UBTECH Robotics and the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center. UBTECH was founded in Shenzhen in March 2012 and has been listed in Hong Kong (9880.HK) since December 2023.
